How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

The Grinch lives apart from the cheerful town below him, and the arrival of Christmas each year only deepens his resentment of his neighbours' happiness. Determined to put a stop to their celebrations, he disguises himself as Santa Claus, hitches his dog Max to a sleigh, and sets out to take away everything the townspeople have prepared for the holiday. What follows is a Christmas Eve visit that does not go as he expects. The 1966 animated television special runs about twenty-five minutes and was produced by The Cat in the Hat Productions with MGM Television and MGM Animation/Visual Arts.

Chuck Jones directed, with Dr. Seuss and Jones serving as producers. It is the seventh of the fifteen films Jones directed in chronological order, coming after Zoom and Bored and before The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie. Boris Karloff voices both the narrator and the Grinch, with June Foray as Cindy Lou Who, Dal McKennon as Max, and Thurl Ravenscroft as the singer of the song about the Grinch.

On IMDb the film holds 8.3 out of 10 from roughly 66,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 7.5 out of 10 from about 1,165 votes. A critics' rating of 9.2 out of 10 from twenty-eight reviews places it above both audience scores, though the two audience figures differ considerably from each other, with the much larger IMDb sample settling closer to the critics' assessment.
