A Mighty Wind

A Mighty Wind is a comedy about three folk groups from the 1960s who reunite for a single concert in New York. After the death of their former manager, his son organizes a tribute show at Town Hall and invites the acts whose careers never quite reached the success he had hoped for them. The musicians must set aside old tensions and relearn how to perform together, and the film follows their preparations as well as the concert itself.

Christopher Guest directed and wrote the screenplay with Eugene Levy. It is the fifth film he directed, arriving between Best in Show in 2000 and Mascots in 2016, and it shares performers with his earlier work, including Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show. The cast includes Bob Balaban as Jonathan Steinbloom, the manager's son, along with Guest, John Michael Higgins, Eugene Levy, Jane Lynch and Michael McKean as members of the reunited bands. As in Guest's other films, much of the dialogue and music was created by the performers themselves.

Produced by Karen Murphy for Warner Bros. Pictures and Castle Rock Entertainment, the film cost about 6 million dollars and took roughly 19 million dollars worldwide, a solid return on a modest budget. Critical response was positive: critics gave it a rating of 7.5 out of 10, higher than the audience score of 7.2 on IMDb and 6.8 on TMDB.
