The Tit and the Moon

The Tit and the Moon is a Spanish-French comedy drama about Tete, a nine-year-old boy living with his parents in a Catalan coastal town. The arrival of a baby brother leaves him feeling pushed aside, and he fixates on the idea of nursing at his mother's breast again. He confides in the moon, asking it for a breast of his own. His wish takes a human form when Estrellita, a dancer with a travelling circus, settles by the beach in a caravan with her older husband Maurice. Tete falls for her, and finds himself in competition with Maurice and with Miquel, a young singer, for her attention.

Bigas Luna directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with Cuca Canals. The film sits between Golden Balls and Bambola in the run of features he made from the late 1980s onward. Biel Duran plays Tete, with Mathilda May as Estrellita, Gérard Darmon as Maurice, Miguel Poveda as Miquel, and Abel Folk and Laura Mañá as his parents.

The film runs 86 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 from around 3,700 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.2 from roughly 100 votes, placing the two audience measures close together.
