Keane

William Keane is struggling to hold himself together six months after his young daughter vanished from New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal while they were travelling together. He keeps returning to the terminal, drifting through its concourse and going over the day she disappeared, as though he might somehow alter what happened. Outside the station his life has narrowed to fruitless searching by day and drink and drugs at night.

A chance meeting with Lynn Bedik, a single mother in financial difficulty, and her daughter Kira draws Keane into their lives. He offers them help and keeps his own history to himself, and the relationship gives him the sense of a fresh start. Even so, his attachment to the girl raises the question of what really drives it.

Lodge Kerrigan wrote and directed this American drama, which Andrew Fierberg produced, and it belongs to a run of films Kerrigan made in the years after his 1993 debut Clean, Shaven. Damian Lewis plays Keane, with Abigail Breslin as Kira, Amy Ryan as Lynn and Tina Holmes as Michelle. The film runs 95 minutes. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from around 6,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from a much smaller sample of 77. A critics' rating of 7.2 out of 10 from 60 reviews places it above the audience score on IMDb, suggesting a stronger response from reviewers than from the wider public.
