This animated comedy reimagines the Hans Christian Andersen tale through the relationship between a city rat named Ratso and an unattractive duckling. After fleeing a gang of fellow rats, Ratso finds refuge on a bird farm by pretending to be the parent of a stray egg. He is forced to raise the hatchling and perform chores for the other residents to stay safe. Seeking fame and profit, the ambitious rat eventually attempts to use the young bird's talents in a show at a large carnival, leading to further conflicts and a narrow escape from a dangerous cat.
The film was co-directed by Michael Hegner and Karsten Kiilerich. For Hegner, this followed his work on Help! I'm a Fish (2000), while it served as the first directorial credit for Kiilerich, who later directed Albert (2015). The voice cast features Morgan C. Jones as Ratso, alongside Paul Tylak, Anna Nugent, and Gary Hetzler. Produced through a collaboration between companies in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, and France, the movie has a runtime of 90 minutes. It holds a rating of 5.5/10 on TMDB based on 113 votes. This audience score is higher than the rating provided by film critics, who gave the movie a 3/10 across 96 reviews.
