Tourist Trap

Tourist Trap is a 1979 American horror and fantasy film about a group of young travellers whose car breaks down in a remote part of the countryside. They take shelter at a roadside museum run by an older man named Mr. Slausen, whose collection of lifelike wax figures turns out to be far less harmless than it first appears. The visitors soon find themselves trapped in a place where the line between mannequin and person is not what they assumed, and where the owner's brother Davey seems to be involved in what happens there.

The film was directed by David Schmoeller, who wrote the screenplay with producer J. Larry Carroll. It is the first of the four features listed in Schmoeller's directing career, ahead of Puppetmaster, Netherworld and Possessed. Chuck Connors plays the dual role of Mr. Slausen and Davey Slausen. The cast also includes Jocelyn Jones, Jon Van Ness, Robin Sherwood, Tanya Roberts and Dawn Jeffory. It runs 89 minutes and was produced by Compass International Pictures and Charles Band Productions.

The film holds a rating of 6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 15,000 votes and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 350 votes, indicating a modest but steady following rather than broad acclaim. A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from eight reviews places it somewhat higher with reviewers than with the wider audiences on the two sites.
