Petey Wheatstraw

Petey Wheatstraw follows a young man who grows from unusual beginnings into a martial artist, only to be outmatched by a villainous comedy duo, Leroy and Skillet, who mix their routines with wholesale murder. When Satan brings the duo's victims back to life, he offers Petey a bargain: marry the devil's daughter so that Satan can have a grandchild. Petey agrees, then tries to back out, and the devil's henchmen come after him. The film builds its story around Rudy Ray Moore's stand-up comedy, with the plot serving as a frame for his humor.

Cliff Roquemore directed and wrote the screenplay, with Theodore Toney producing for Comedian Intl Enterprise Productions. It was released in November 1977 and runs 99 minutes. Moore stars as Petey, joined by Jimmy Lynch as Jimmy, Leroy Daniels as Leroy, Ernest Mayhand as Skillet, Ebony Wright as Nell and the Devil's Daughter, and Steve Gallon as Steve, among a credited cast of 85. The film mixes action, comedy, fantasy and horror.
