Marguerite and Fred are divorced and have both moved on with new partners and children. When Fred seeks a church annulment of their previous marriage to remarry, Marguerite agrees to help. To satisfy religious authorities, the former couple must examine their shared history to prove their union was flawed from the start. This process evolves into a complex journey involving their blended family and leading them to Rome to face Vatican officials.
