Quarantine

Quarantine follows a Los Angeles television reporter and her cameraman as they spend a night filming a fire crew's routine shift. A call takes them to an apartment building where a woman has attacked a police officer, and before long the authorities seal the building, trapping everyone inside. The reporter and her cameraman keep the camera running while residents and emergency workers try to understand what is happening. Set in Los Angeles, the film is a remake of the Spanish horror film Rec.

John Erick Dowdle directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, the writers behind the original. It was Dowdle's second feature, following The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and he later made Devil, As Above, So Below and No Escape. Jennifer Carpenter plays reporter Angela Vidal, with Jay Hernandez as firefighter Jake and Steve Harris as cameraman Scott Percival; Dania Ramirez, Greg Germann and Johnathon Schaech also appear. Doug Davison and Roy Lee produced.

Made for about 12 million dollars, the film took roughly 41 million worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 83,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 out of 10 from a smaller pool. A critics' rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 86 reviews places it near the audience scores rather than clearly above or below them.
