Short description
Matyora is a small village on a beautiful island with the same name. The existence of the village is threatened with flooding by the construction of a dam. This is the story of the inhabitants of Matyora and their farewell to their homeland.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the novella "Farewell to Matyora" by Valentin Rasputin.
- Conceived and started by Larisa Shepitko, the film was completed after her tragic death by her husband, film director Elem Klimov. He also changed the title: "Farewell to Matyora" became simply "Farewell".
- The film features Russian folk songs performed by the Dmitry Pokrovsky Ensemble.
