Lovers of the Arctic Circle

Ana and Otto meet as children at their school in 1980 and become close friends, and a series of coincidences keeps drawing them back together over the years that follow. When Ana's mother and Otto's father marry, the two become step-siblings, and as teenagers they begin a relationship they keep hidden from their parents. The bond between them seems strong enough to last, but the death of Otto's mother separates them. Years later, their paths converge again in Finnish Lapland, near the Arctic Circle.

Julio Medem wrote and directed this Spanish drama, released in 1998, which was the first of six features he directed, followed by Sex and Lucía, Room in Rome, ma ma, The Tree of Blood and 8. Najwa Nimri and Fele Martínez play the grown Ana and Otto, with Nancho Novo and Maru Valdivielso as the parents, and Sara Valiente and Peru Medem as the children. Fernando Bovaira and Enrique López Lavigne produced.
