Funny Farm

Andy Farmer is a sportswriter in New York who gives up his job so that he and his wife Elizabeth, a schoolteacher, can move to rural Vermont, where he intends to write a novel in peace. The quiet they are looking for does not materialize. The small town they settle in turns out to be full of eccentric neighbors and everyday mishaps, and Andy finds his attention pulled away from his manuscript again and again as the couple's plan for an idyllic country life keeps running into trouble.

George Roy Hill directed the film, working from a screenplay by Jeffrey Boam, with Robert Crawford Jr. producing. It was Hill's ninth feature, arriving after The World According to Garp and following a run that included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting. Chevy Chase plays Andy, Madolyn Smith Osborne plays Elizabeth, and the credited cast of 45 includes Kevin O'Morrison, Joseph Maher, Jack Gilpin and Caris Corfman.
