Jean and Joan Holbrooke are inseparable twin sisters who live on the fringes of society. Their bond is so intense that they share the same dreams, love the same man, and speak and make verbal mistakes in unison. The story focuses on how the surrounding world perceives them, depicting their experiences through the press, the legal system, and the people who either seek to assist or exploit them. In their pursuit of a place where true love is possible, the sisters attempt to carve a path through a mountain range.
