Short description
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas follows the famed sailor Sinbad, who is blamed for stealing the Book of Peace, a treasured artifact whose loss throws the world into danger. The goddess Eris is the real thief, having taken the book while disguised as Sinbad, and his childhood friend Prince Proteus offers his own life as surety so Sinbad can go and recover it. Sinbad initially wants nothing to do with the mission, preferring to sail off with his crew, but Marina, Proteus's betrothed, stows away on his ship and holds him to his promise. Their journey takes them toward Eris's realm, where the goddess sends storms and monstrous creatures against them.
The film is a DreamWorks Animation production directed by Tim Johnson, with Patrick Gilmore, from a screenplay by John Logan, and produced by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Mireille Soria. It was Johnson's second directorial feature, arriving between Antz (1998) and Over the Hedge (2006). The voice cast includes Brad Pitt as Sinbad, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Marina, Michelle Pfeiffer as Eris, Joseph Fiennes as Proteus, Dennis Haysbert as Kale and Timothy West as Dymas.
Released in July 2003, the film had a budget of 60 million USD and earned 81 million USD worldwide. It holds a 6.8/10 rating on IMDb from 64,000 votes and a 7.1/10 on TMDB from 2,294 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6/10 from 126 reviews places it below both audience scores.
