The Garbage Pail Kids Movie

The Garbage Pail Kids Movie follows Dodger, a fourteen-year-old who works after school in an antique shop run by the eccentric Captain Manzini. Dodger is picked on by Juice and his gang, and he is smitten with Juice's girlfriend Tangerine. When Dodger opens a mysterious trash can in the shop, seven small, grotesque beings emerge from it: the Garbage Pail Kids. The creatures befriend Dodger, cause considerable mischief, and set out to find others of their kind, while a bounty hunter hired by Dodger's rival comes after them.

Rod Amateau directed, produced and co-wrote the film with Linda Palmer, based on the trading card characters from Topps Chewing Gum, which co-produced with Atlantic Entertainment Group. It was Amateau's second feature as director, arriving seventeen years after Pussycat, Pussycat, I Love You. Anthony Newley plays Captain Manzini, with Mackenzie Astin as Dodger, Katie Barberi as Tangerine, Ron MacLachlan as Juice and Phil Fondacaro credited as Greaser Greg. Thirty-one cast members are credited.

Made for about one million dollars and released in August 1987, the film took roughly two million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 2.7 out of 10 from around 9,300 votes, and on TMDB it has a 3.5 out of 10 from about 120 votes.
