Dark Skies

Dark Skies is a 2013 supernatural thriller about the Barrett family, who live in a quiet suburban neighbourhood. Daniel has lost his job and money is tight, while Lacey holds the household together and looks after their two sons. Their ordinary routines begin to break down when a series of disturbing incidents unsettles the home, and the youngest boy speaks of a visitor who comes at night. As the events grow stranger, the parents find that friends and neighbours do not believe them, leaving the couple to work out on their own what is threatening their children.

Scott Stewart wrote and directed the film, his third feature after Legion in 2010 and Priest in 2011. It was produced by Jason Blum, whose company Blumhouse Productions made it alongside Automatik Entertainment, Alliance Films and Cinema Vehicle Services. The cast is led by Keri Russell as Lacey and Josh Hamilton as Daniel, with Dakota Goyo as Jesse, J.K. Simmons as Edwin Pollard, Trevor St. John as Alex Holcombe and Annie Thurman as Shelly.

Made on a budget of four million dollars, the film took about twenty-eight million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly eighty-five thousand votes, and on TMDB 6.4 out of 10 from around two thousand votes, while the critics' rating stands lower at 4.9 out of 10 across ninety-three reviews.
