Short description

The defiant leader Moses rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 400,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Fortunately, Christian Bale managed to lose the weight he had gained for filming with David O. Russell in the crime drama 'American Hustle' (2013) and get into the shape necessary for the role of Moses.
  • Joel Edgerton found out he had been cast as Ramses from congratulatory letters from fans who had been following the casting online.
  • In preparation for the role, Christian Bale read many books sacred to Christians and Jews, attended Sunday school, and rewatched a large number of films on the relevant topic.
  • Moses kneels and enters the sea to retrieve his sword from the bottom, and consequently, his clothes get wet. When he emerges, water is still dripping from his clothes, but in the next shot, Moses is standing completely dry.
  • Oscar Isaac and Javier Bardem turned down the role of Ramses.
  • The film was shot in 74 days.
  • The film was initially titled simply "Exodus", but due to the filmmakers' inability to secure the rights to use that title, they had to add the subtitle "Gods and Kings".
