Exodus: Gods and Kings

Exodus: Gods and Kings is a retelling of the biblical story of Moses, made by director Ridley Scott. Raised in Egypt's royal household alongside Ramses, Moses learns of his Hebrew origins and becomes the voice of the Israelites held in slavery. When Ramses takes the throne, the two men who grew up as brothers are set against each other, and Moses leads a mass departure from Egypt toward the Promised Land. Christian Bale plays Moses and Joel Edgerton plays Ramses, with Ben Kingsley, John Turturro, Aaron Paul and Golshifteh Farahani among the supporting cast. The screenplay is credited to Steven Zaillian, Jeffrey Caine and Adam Cooper.

The film was released in December 2014 and runs 150 minutes. It was made for about 140 million dollars and, as one of the larger productions of Scott's career, drew audiences but divided viewers: on IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 186,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 from about 4,950 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 208 reviews places it below both audience scores.

It is the twenty-fourth of the thirty-four films Scott has directed in chronological order, arriving between The Counselor in 2013 and The Martian in 2015. Its worldwide box office totaled 268 million dollars.
