Lone Wolf McQuade
Short description
Lone Wolf McQuade centers on J.J. McQuade, a Texas Ranger known for working alone and for the ruthlessness that makes criminals fear him. When a weapons-smuggling operation touches his family, his professional investigation turns personal, and he takes on the gang behind it. The smugglers are led by Rawley Wilkes, a karate champion, and the conflict draws in Lola Richardson, a woman both men want. A young Mexican officer, Kayo, becomes McQuade's unwanted partner, while fellow Ranger Dakota stands by him.
The film was directed by Steve Carver, the sixth of his features after The Arena, Capone, Drum, Steel and An Eye for an Eye. Chuck Norris plays McQuade and David Carradine plays Wilkes; Barbara Carrera, Leon Isaac Kennedy, Robert Beltran and L.Q. Jones round out the main cast. B.J. Nelson wrote the screenplay, and Yoram Ben-Ami and Carver produced. Made for about 5 million dollars, it took roughly 12 million worldwide, a solid multiple of its cost, and drew a larger audience than most of Carver's earlier work.
On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5 out of 10 from roughly 437 votes, suggesting a durable B-movie following. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from seven reviews sits close to those audience scores. The martial-arts showdown between Ranger and smuggler is the film's centrepiece.
