Miami Blues

Alec Baldwin plays Frederick J. Frenger Jr., known as Junior, a thief and violent man newly out of prison who arrives in Miami hoping to start over. He barely settles in before killing a Hare Krishna follower at the airport, an act that draws the attention of Sergeant Hoke Moseley, played by Fred Ward. Junior meets Susie, a prostitute looking for stability, and the two begin a relationship even as he continues robbing and conning his way through the city. After taking the sergeant's badge and gun, Junior poses as a police officer, which complicates the investigation closing in on him.

George Armitage directed and wrote the screenplay, with Jonathan Demme and Gary Goetzman producing. It was Armitage's second feature as director, following Hot Rod in 1979, and his later films were Grosse Pointe Blank and The Big Bounce. Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Susie, and the cast also includes Nora Dunn, Charles Napier and Shirley Stoler.

Made for about 11 million dollars, the film took in roughly the same amount worldwide and drew modest audience scores, 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 11,000 votes and 6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample. A critics' rating of 6.5 from 27 reviews places professional opinion slightly above the audience average.
