Species: The Awakening

Species: The Awakening follows Miranda Hollander, a college professor who blacks out and wakes amid the carnage of a massacre. Turning to her uncle Tom for answers, she learns that she is only half human: a clone created from a laboratory mix of human and alien DNA. The pair travel to Mexico to track down the scientist responsible for her creation, hoping to halt the transformation overtaking her. Their search puts them in the path of aggressive hybrids, while Miranda struggles against the violent instinct growing inside her.

The film is a horror, science fiction and thriller entry in the Species series, directed by Nick Lyon as the first of the fifteen features he has made, ahead of Zombie Apocalypse in 2011. Ben Ripley wrote the screenplay, and Frank Mancuso Jr. and Lorenzo O'Brien produced for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and 360 Pictures. Helena Mattsson plays Miranda opposite Ben Cross as Tom, with supporting turns from Dominic Keating, Marlene Favela, Meagen Fay and Roger Cudney among a credited cast of twenty-five and a crew of 103.

Made for a budget of four million dollars, the film rates 3.9 out of 10 on IMDb from around 8,600 votes and 4.7 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 310 votes.
