Short description
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li follows a young woman whose comfortable upbringing is shattered when the crime lord Bison takes her father from her. Trained in martial arts from childhood and also a gifted pianist, she grows into an adult who sets out to find him and to bring down the organization holding him, leaving her old life behind. Her search takes her to Bangkok, where she meets Gen, a former criminal who becomes her teacher, and where she crosses paths with an Interpol officer and a local detective working the same case. The film is based on the Street Fighter video games, drawing on the Alpha portion of that series.
Andrzej Bartkowiak directed from a screenplay by Justin Marks. It is the fifth of the six features Bartkowiak directed, arriving between Doom and Maximum Impact. Kristin Kreuk plays Chun-Li, with Chris Klein as Charlie Nash, Neal McDonough as Bison, Robin Shou as Gen, Moon Bloodgood as Detective Maya Sunee and Josie Ho as Cantana; 32 cast members are credited. Produced by Ashok Amritraj and Patrick Aiello, the film cost about 50 million dollars and returned roughly 13 million worldwide, a wide gap between spending and receipts.
Reception was weak across the board. On IMDb it holds 3.7 from about 26,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.3 from around 505 votes. A critics' rating of 2.3 from 59 reviews places professional response below even the modest audience scores.

Rumors circulated that negotiations were also underway with Byron Mann. However, the sequel never materialized.
