Short description
Mickey, Minnie, and their friends share memories of past holiday celebrations through three separate stories. The first follows Mickey and Minnie as they attempt to provide one another with the perfect gift. In the second, Goofy and his son Max experience a series of mishaps that eventually lead to a visit from Santa Claus. The final segment features Donald's nephews, who discover the true meaning of the season after their wish for Christmas to happen every day results in chaos.
Produced by Disney Television Animation in the United States, this animated family comedy was released in 1999. It was co-directed by Bill Speers, Alex Mann, and three other directors: Bradley Raymond, whose previous work included Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World; Jun Falkenstein, who had directed Scooby-Doo! in Arabian Nights; and Toby Shelton, who directed The Return of Jafar. The voice cast includes Wayne Allwine as Mickey Mouse, Russi Taylor as Minnie Mouse and the nephews, and Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck, with Kelsey Grammer serving as the narrator.
The film has a runtime of 66 minutes. It is well-regarded by viewers, holding a 7/10 rating on IMDb based on 12,000 votes and a 7.1/10 rating on TMDB from 735 votes. The production involved a credited crew of 98 and a credited cast of 20.
What's left behind the scenes
- In the 'A Very Goofy Christmas' story, decorative flamingos can be seen on the lawn in front of the house. This idea came from the depiction of these birds in the 'Carnival of the Animals' segment of the 'Fantasia 2000' cartoon. Work on both projects was carried out in parallel.
- In the 'Mickey and Minnie's Gift of the Magi' segment, the jazz orchestra at the charity event consists of firefighters and is called Firehouse 5. This is a reference to the seven-member Firehouse Five Plus Two orchestra, founded in 1949, which featured employees of the Disney studio, including two leading animators – Ward Kimball and Frank Thomas.
- The store where Minnie works in the 'Mickey and Minnie's Gift of the Magi' segment is called 'Mortimer's.' Walt Disney once intended to name his future creation Mortimer.
