Games of Love and Chance

Krimo is fifteen and lives with his mother in a public housing estate on the outskirts of Paris. His father is in prison, and the family shares a fragile dream of one day sailing away to the other side of the world. In the meantime, Krimo drifts through the estate with his friend Éric and their group of friends, with little to fill the days. Then spring arrives and he falls for Lydia, a lively and mischievous classmate.

Lydia has been chosen to perform in a school production of Marivaux's play The Game of Love and Chance and rehearses constantly, her friends reluctantly drawn along. Krimo, who normally keeps his distance from such things, decides to join the production to get closer to her, even though it means stepping into a part and a world that are not his own, and risking his standing among his friends.

Abdellatif Kechiche directed and co-wrote the film with Ghalya Lacroix; it was his first feature. Osman Elkharraz plays Krimo and Sara Forestier plays Lydia, with Sabrina Ouazani, Nanou Benhamou, Hafet Ben-Ahmed and Aurélie Ganito among the twenty-one credited cast. It runs 124 minutes. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from around 3,300 votes, on TMDB 6.7/10 from 156 votes, while critics gave it 7.1/10 across 18 reviews, close to the audience scores.
