The Stunt Driver follows the true story of Ken Carter, a Montreal stuntman known as the Mad Canadian. During the mid-1970s, Carter sought to cap off three decades of professional driving by jumping a rocket car across the Saint Lawrence River. Driven by a desire for wealth and global recognition, he recruited a prominent sports manager and top engineers to design the vehicle. As he worked to overcome various obstacles to complete the feat, the National Film Board of Canada documented the preparations.
This action comedy drama was written and directed by Michael Dowse, following his previous work on Trap House in 2025. It is the eleventh film in his directing career, which began with It's All Gone Pete Tong in 2004. The movie was produced by Protagonist Pictures, Mongrel Media, and Film Cardinal, featuring a cast that includes Jay Baruchel as Carter, Ed Helms as Dick Keller, Ben Foster as Evel Knievel, and Laurence Leboeuf as Gloria. The production involved a credited crew of 54 people and has a runtime of 99 minutes. This international project was produced in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
