Keith Reynolds is a music teacher in a small town in upstate New York who once played in New York City and still performs as a cellist with a Manhattan orchestra. His wife, Megan, and their daughter, Lauren, who is about to start her final year of high school, agree to host Sophie, a British exchange student. Sophie's arrival unsettles the household: her impulsive, moody presence revives a side of Keith he had set aside, and the attraction that develops between them strains the family's relationships.
The drama was directed by Drake Doremus, who wrote the screenplay with Ben York Jones. It is the second of the director's feature films, following Like Crazy in 2011 and preceding Equals in 2015. Guy Pearce plays Keith, Felicity Jones plays Sophie, Amy Ryan plays Megan, and Mackenzie Davis plays Lauren, with Kyle MacLachlan and Ali Wentworth in supporting roles. Andrea Sperling, Jonathan Schwartz and Steven M. Rales produced, and the film runs 98 minutes.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 339 votes, indicating a mixed response from those who have seen it.
