Hussein Who Said No

Set in seventh-century Iraq, this Iranian historical drama centres on the stand taken by Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the third Shia imam, against the ruling caliph. The dispute becomes open confrontation at Karbala, where Hussein and his followers face a far larger force. The film follows the figures on both sides of that encounter, from Hussein's companions to the commanders serving the caliphate, as the conflict moves toward its outcome.

Ahmad Reza Darvish directed and wrote the screenplay, with Taghi Aligholizadeh producing for Farhange Tamasha. The large credited cast of twenty-eight includes Babak Hamidian, Arash Aasefi, Hassan Pourshirazi, Farhad Ghaemian, Pouria Poursorkh and Bahador Zamani. The film runs 160 minutes. It arrived in 2014, well into Darvish's filmography.
