Short description

During World War II, an American soldier named John Castle becomes the sole survivor of his unit after a Nazi ambush during the Battle of the Bulge. Wounded and isolated in the freezing winter landscape of Belgium, he must navigate enemy territory to reach a rendezvous point. Castle relies on his military training and a portable radio to evade German patrols and armored units while attempting to reconnect with his forces.

The action war film was directed by Rod Lurie, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Marc Frydman. This project follows the director's previous works, including The Outpost, The Senior, and seven other films starting with The Contender. The movie stars Scott Eastwood as Castle, with a supporting cast that includes Colin Hanks, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Taylor John Smith, Lorne MacFadyen, and Atanas Srebrev. A total of 32 actors are credited in the production.

Produced by BondIt Media Capital, Millennium Media, and Perfection Hunter Productions, the film was made with a budget of 10 million USD. Since its release on June 26, 2026, the movie has received a rating of 6.8/10 on TMDB based on 47 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the suggestion of production designer Eric Carlson, 360-degree circular sets were constructed for continuous shot filming. The sets were highly accurate, incorporating the smallest details.
  • Scott Eastwood, who had already appeared in several war dramas, was initially reluctant to act in another one, but he changed his mind after reading the script.
  • To ensure authenticity, military consultant Jariko Denman specifically studied World War II-era engineering, weapons of the period, explosives, tactics, and combat training methods. He worked with mid-20th century instructional films, archival footage, photographs, and accounts from participants and eyewitnesses. In addition, Denman re-evaluated his own extensive combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan in light of this information.
  • Authentic World War II weaponry and equipment, including German half-track armored personnel carriers and tanks, were sought across Europe specifically for the shoot. According to producer Marc Friedman, transporting them to the set was a "logistical feat."
  • Before embarking on this project, screenwriters Marc Friedman (who also served as producer) and Rod Lurie (screenwriter and director) spent several years independently studying the European theater of operations during World War II.
