Selena

Selena is a biographical drama about the rise of Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, a Mexican-American performer from Texas whose talent her father, Abraham, recognizes when she is still a child. He builds a family band around her, and as she grows into a star, her relationship with guitarist Chris Perez creates friction with her father. Wanting to reach a wider audience, Selena records an English-language album she does not live to finish.

Directed and written by Gregory Nava, the film followed his 1995 feature My Family and came before Bordertown in 2007. Jennifer Lopez plays Selena, with Edward James Olmos as Abraham, Jon Seda as Chris Perez, and Jackie Guerra and Constance Marie among the credited cast of 66. Produced by Robert Katz and Moctesuma Esparza through Warner Bros. Pictures with Esparza/Katz Productions and Q Productions, it had a budget of 20 million dollars and took about 35 million dollars worldwide.
