Five grisly tales from a 1950s-style comic, including a murdered father rising from beyond, a bizarre meteor, a vengeful husband, a mysterious crate's occupant, and a plague of cockroaches.
What's left behind the scenes
- The comic book “Creepshow,” which appears in the film, was drawn by artist Jake Kamen, whose work inspired Romero and King in creating the film.
- Instead of larvae in the eyes of the zombies from the first episode, "Rice Krispies" were used – the equivalent of our "corn sticks". At the end of the "The Lonely Death of Jordy Verrill" episode, a "Castle Rock" road sign is visible – a fictional town that King frequently uses in his works.
- The boy in the prologue was played by Joe King, Stephen King's actual son.
- The characters Tabitha and Richard from the episode “The Box” are named after the writer's wife, Tabitha King, and “Richard Bachman”—Stephen King's pen name.
- The idea for “The Lonely Death of Jordy Verrill” came to King while listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s song “It Came Out of the Sky.”
- All the furniture used in the episode "They're Creeping Up on You" was donated to the Salvation Army after filming, complete with the cockroaches infesting it.
- In the episode “The Lonely Death of Jordy Verrill,” a moss-covered Stephen King watches the film “How Green Was My Valley” (dir. John Ford, 1941) on television.
- Ted Danson, who played Harry Wentworth in the episode "That's Gotta Be the One", recounted in one televised interview that his young daughter showed up on set just as they were filming the scene where he plays a half-decayed, seaweed-covered zombie. He tried his best to avoid meeting his child so as not to frighten her. However, despite all his efforts, the girl noticed him, approached and said, "Oh, Dad! Hi!"
- The Italian version of the film does not include the episode “The Lonely Death of Jordy Verrill,” while the German version omits the episode “The Crate.”
- The same ashtray appears in all five episodes.
