Kinky Boots

Charlie Price has spent his life around his family's shoe factory in Northampton, and when he unexpectedly inherits the business, he finds it struggling against cheaper competition and on the verge of collapse with its workforce facing layoffs. A chance encounter in London brings him into contact with Lola, a cabaret performer whose needs point to a niche Charlie had never considered: sturdy, glamorous footwear made specifically for drag queens. He proposes a new line of high-heeled boots, but the idea meets resistance from employees skeptical of both the product and the man behind it.

Kinky Boots is a 2005 British-American comedy-drama directed by Julian Jarrold, following his 2004 film Anonymous Rex and preceding Becoming Jane. Written by Tim Firth and Geoff Deane, it stars Joel Edgerton as Charlie, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola, and Sarah-Jane Potts, Nick Frost, Linda Bassett and Jemima Rooper in supporting roles. The film later became the basis for a stage musical.

The production cost about 10 million USD and earned roughly 9 million USD worldwide, so it fell short of recouping its budget.
