Short description
All That Jazz centers on Joe Gideon, a Broadway director and choreographer whose stage work and film editing leave him almost no room for a personal life. Rehearsals for a new show run behind schedule and over budget while he juggles his ex-wife, his daughter and a lover. He pushes on through exhaustion with pills and sheer will, until a heart attack puts him in a hospital bed.
Bob Fosse directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Robert Alan Aurthur. It was his fourth film as director, after Sweet Charity, Cabaret and Lenny. Roy Scheider plays Gideon, with Jessica Lange, Ann Reinking, Leland Palmer, Cliff Gorman and Ben Vereen among the credited cast of 86.
Made for 12 million dollars and released in December 1979, the film earned 38 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.8 from 40,000 votes and on TMDB 7.5 from 629 votes, while a critics' rating of 8.1 from 48 reviews sits above both audience scores.
