Planet 51

Planet 51 is an animated science fiction comedy about an astronaut who lands on a planet expecting to be the first human to set foot there. Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker instead finds a world of small green inhabitants whose peaceful, suburban-style society is modelled on 1950s America. The locals live in fear of an alien invasion, and Chuck fits that description exactly, so he becomes the target of a military manhunt led by General Grawl. With help from a young resident named Lem and a robot companion, Chuck tries to stay out of captivity and repair his ship in time to get home.

The film was directed by Jorge Blanco from a screenplay by Joe Stillman, and was produced across the United Kingdom, Spain and the United States. Its voice cast includes Dwayne Johnson as Chuck, Justin Long as Lem, Jessica Biel, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese. Released in November 2009, it carried a budget of about 70 million dollars and took roughly 105 million dollars worldwide, a return that fell short of what a production of that scale would typically need.

Audience responses were mixed. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 62,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from over 2,200 votes. A critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 107 reviews places professional assessments noticeably below the audience scores.
