K-11 is a 2013 American drama about Raymond Saxx Jr., a successful music producer who regains consciousness after a drug-induced blackout to discover he has been jailed and designated "K-11." Locked in a unit of a Los Angeles men's prison reserved for gay, transgender and HIV-positive inmates, he finds himself in a closed world run by a transgender inmate named Mousey. Other prisoners complicate his situation, among them a young transgender woman called Butterfly, while a sheriff's deputy, Lieutenant Johnson, proves a ruthless presence. Raymond tries to reach the outside world and win back his freedom, but survival depends on learning how the unit's power structure works and finding a place within it.
The film was directed by Jules Stewart, who wrote the screenplay with Jared Kurt. Goran Visnjic plays Raymond, with Kate del Castillo as Mousey, D.B. Sweeney as Lieutenant Johnson, Portia Doubleday as Butterfly, Jason Mewes as Ben Shapiro and Sonya Eddy as Theresa Luna; the credited cast runs to 57 names. It runs 88 minutes.
Audience response has been modest: on IMDb the film holds 5.1 out of 10 from roughly 1,900 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from 78 votes. A critics' rating of 3.5 out of 10 from 15 reviews places it below even the muted audience scores.
