Kevin Franklin is a loud-mouthed con man who has gotten himself into serious trouble over an unpaid debt to a mob boss. On the run from the men sent to collect, he randomly encounters Gary Young, a hardworking family man living a comfortable life in a Pennsylvania suburb. Kevin seizes the opportunity, passing himself off as Gary's old childhood friend and talking his way into the household. What begins as a convenient hiding place turns into an increasingly tangled situation as Kevin keeps up the deception while the people chasing him close in.
The comedy was directed by Randall Miller, released in January 1995 as the second of the seven features he has directed to date, following Class Act and preceding The 6th Man. It was written by Michael J. Di Gaetano and Lawrence Gay and produced by Roger Birnbaum and Joe Roth. Sinbad plays Kevin, with Phil Hartman as Gary Young, Kim Greist as Gary's wife Emily, Jeffrey Jones as Ron Timmerman, and Stan Shaw and Tony Longo among the supporting cast. Twenty-two cast members and sixty-two crew members are credited.
Made for a budget of 11 million dollars, the film took in about 26 million dollars worldwide, a solid return on its production cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from roughly 7,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.5 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 81 votes.
