Some Velvet Morning

Some Velvet Morning is a two-hander about a man named Fred who turns up unannounced at the New York home of Velvet, a younger woman he was once involved with. Roughly four years have passed since they last had contact, and he arrives with a suitcase and the claim that he has finally left his wife. Velvet, who had asked him not to get in touch after they broke up, is not interested in picking things up again. As the conversation goes on, what begins as an awkward reunion turns into a contest of wills, and the difficult history between the two comes into view.

Neil LaBute wrote and directed the film, which sits seventh in the run of features he has directed, between Death at a Funeral and Dirty Weekend. Stanley Tucci plays Fred and Alice Eve plays Velvet; the two performers carry the whole film between them. It was produced by Michael Corrente, Daryl Freimark and Tim Harms for Untouchable Films and Velvet Morning, on a budget of about two million dollars, and runs 84 minutes.

The film was released in December 2013. Audiences have been divided on it: it holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb, based on around 2,200 votes, and the same score of 5.8 out of 10 on TMDB, from a much smaller base of 63 votes.
