Bridegroom is a 2013 American documentary about Shane Bitney Crone and Tom Bridegroom, a young couple whose life together is suddenly ended when Tom dies in a fall from a roof. Because the two men were not legally married, Shane finds himself without legal recognition of their relationship, excluded by Tom's family and left to grieve largely on his own. The film follows Shane's attempt to preserve the memory of the man he loved while facing the practical and emotional consequences of having no legal standing.
Linda Bloodworth-Thomason directed and wrote the documentary, and produced it with Shane Bitney Crone and Douglas Jackson. Shane appears as himself, alongside Cindy Bitney, David Crone, Lizzy Mohl and Judy Crone; Tom Bridegroom appears through archive footage. The film runs eighty minutes and was released in April 2013. On IMDb it holds a rating of 8 out of 10 from around 5,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a 7.3 out of 10 from roughly 90 votes. The much larger IMDb vote count points to a broadly positive response from viewers, and the gap between the two figures reflects how differently the two audiences have received it.
