Two Mothers is a German drama about Katja and Isabella, a married couple who struggle to conceive a child. Because many fertility clinics and sperm banks in Germany refuse to treat lesbian couples for legal reasons, the pair faces significant emotional and financial strain. After expensive and unsuccessful medical attempts, they find a specialist who provides materials for home insemination, leading them to search for a compatible donor. These ongoing difficulties and the pressure to become parents gradually create conflict and doubt within their relationship.
The film was written and directed by Anne Zohra Berrached. It features Karina Plachetka as Isabella and Sabine Wolf as Katja, with supporting roles played by Florian Weber, Maarten Van Santen, Tilmann A. Müller, and Joachim Welz. The production was handled by ZDF and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
Released in February 2013 with a runtime of 75 minutes, the movie received a moderate response from audiences. It holds a rating of 5.5/10 on IMDb based on 685 votes and a rating of 5.1/10 on TMDB from 27 votes.
