The Battery

In rural Connecticut, two former baseball players, Ben and Mickey, try to survive a zombie outbreak that has left few people alive. Ben is practical and wary, applying strict rules and treating each encounter with an approaching zombie as a situation to be managed. Mickey is gentler and more romantic, retreating into music and dreams of how things used to be. Their differences make a hard journey harder as they travel through a devastated New England.

The pair search for supplies and for other survivors, and when a human voice comes through their walkie-talkies, the two disagree about whether it means rescue or danger, since Ben suspects the worst. The film is a drama as much as a horror story, focused on the tense, often strained relationship between the two men rather than on constant attacks. It was directed by Jeremy Gardner, who also wrote the screenplay and produced the film with Christian Stella and Adam Cronheim.

Gardner plays Ben, and Adam Cronheim plays Mickey. The cast also includes Niels Bolle, Alana O'Brien, Jamie Pantanella and Larry Fessenden. The Battery was Gardner's first directed feature, followed years later by After Midnight. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 6.4/10 from ten reviews, and on TMDB it has a rating of 6.1/10 from 317 votes, indicating a modest reception from a small audience.
