The Fluffer

Sean McGinnis, a shy young man fresh out of college, arrives in Los Angeles hoping to break into the film industry, but the business proves harder to enter than he expected. An encounter with gay porn performer Johnny Rebel turns into fascination, and Sean sets out to get close to the man he has become fixated on. He finds work with the company that produces Johnny's films, eventually serving on set in the role of a "fluffer," kept on hand to keep Johnny ready between takes. Johnny insists he is straight and performs in gay scenes only for pay, and he has a girlfriend, Babylon. Sean's feelings deepen even as Johnny's own life starts to come apart, and the two men are drawn into a course of events that reshapes both of them.

The Fluffer was released in 2001, directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, with Westmoreland writing the screenplay. Glatzer and Westmoreland went on to direct Still Alice in 2014, and Westmoreland later made Colette, Earthquake Bird and Heartstopper Forever, while this was the first feature in both directors' filmographies. The cast includes Scott Gurney as Johnny Rebel, Michael Cunio as Sean, Roxanne Day as Babylon, Taylor Negron, Debbie Harry and a young Penn Badgley.
