Two former U.S. presidents, Republican Russell Kramer and Democrat Matt Douglas, have spent years as bitter political rivals. When a corruption scandal threatens the current president, William Haney, he shifts the blame onto his predecessors and sends armed pursuers after them. Forced together with no resources, the two men travel across the country trying to gather evidence that will clear their names.

Peter Segal directed the comedy, which came after his work on Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult and Tommy Boy. Jack Lemmon plays Kramer and James Garner plays Douglas, with Dan Aykroyd as President Haney, John Heard as Vice President Ted Matthews, Wilford Brimley as Joe Hollis and Lauren Bacall as Margaret Kramer. The screenplay is credited to Peter Tolan, E. Jack Kaplan and Richard Chapman, and Jon Peters produced. The film runs 101 minutes.

Made for a budget of 22 million USD, the film received mixed responses. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from around 17,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 188 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 59 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
