An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth presents Al Gore making the case that global warming is a crisis the world has been slow to confront. Drawing on his years of research and a presentation he has delivered in cities around the world, the former US vice president lays out the scientific consensus on rising temperatures, the human activities driving them and the consequences he argues are already visible and likely to worsen. The film follows him as he gives this talk and reflects on how he came to devote himself to the issue after the 2000 presidential election.

Davis Guggenheim directed and shares screenplay credit with Gore. It was Guggenheim's second feature, arriving between Gossip and a much later run of films including STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie and Deaf President Now!. Lawrence Bender, Scott Z. Burns and Laurie Lennard produced. Gore appears as himself, with archive footage of several US presidents and voice work by Billy West.

Made for about 2 million dollars, the documentary went on to take roughly 49 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for a film of its scale. On IMDb it holds 7.4 out of 10 from around 87,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from just over a thousand. A critics' rating of 7.8 from 164 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
