Les Biches

Claude Chabrol directed Les Biches, a drama with romance elements that opened in March 1968 and runs 95 minutes. The screenplay was written by Paul Gégauff and Chabrol, and André Génovès produced through Alexandra Films. It was made in Italy and France. Chabrol had already directed three features before this one, and he followed it with The Unfaithful Wife.

The story centers on Frédérique, a wealthy Parisian woman with time to spare and a taste for women, who notices a young street artist named Why drawing on the pavement and takes her to a villa in Saint-Tropez. The two settle into an easy life together until Paul Thomas, an architect, enters the picture. Both women are drawn to him, and the arrangement that follows brings jealousy and scheming into the household.

Stéphane Audran plays Frédérique, Jacqueline Sassard is Why, and Jean-Louis Trintignant plays Paul Thomas. The cast also includes Nane Germon, Serge Bento and Henri Attal.

On IMDb, Les Biches holds a rating of 6.8 from around 4,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from fewer than a hundred votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 from thirteen reviews places the film somewhat above its audience scores, though the response overall is modest rather than enthusiastic.
