The Golden Voyage of Sinbad

Sinbad, a seafaring adventurer, takes possession of a golden tablet that forms part of an interlocking map. The sorcerer Koura, who created a winged creature sent to carry the fragment, wants it back and pursues Sinbad across the seas. Sinbad meets a vizier who holds another piece of the map, and together they sail in search of the riddle's answer, accompanied by a young woman named Margiana. Their voyage toward the island of Lemuria brings them up against strange creatures and repeated attempts by Koura to stop them.

The film was directed by Gordon Hessler, whose other credits include Scream and Scream Again and KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. Brian Clemens wrote the screenplay, and Ray Harryhausen and Charles H. Schneer produced. John Phillip Law plays Sinbad, Caroline Munro plays Margiana, Tom Baker plays Prince Koura, Douglas Wilmer plays the Vizier, and Martin Shaw and Grégoire Aslan appear as Rachid and Hakim.

Released in December 1973, the film is a British-American production from Columbia Pictures and Morningside Productions that took about 11 million dollars worldwide. Audience response has been moderately positive: it holds a rating of 6.8 from roughly 12,000 votes on IMDb and 6.7 from about 272 votes on TMDB. A smaller pool of critics rated it 5.3 from 17 reviews, lower than the audience scores.
