Asura

Set in medieval Japan during a period of famine and war, the story follows an orphan named Asura. Left alone in the desolate landscape of Kyoto, the boy becomes a savage survivor who views violence as a necessity. After meeting a girl named Wasaka, he begins to learn compassion and the values of humanity. However, as he attempts to integrate into a society hardened by suffering, he faces rejection from the local villagers and struggles to control his inner aggression.

The film was directed by Keiichi Sato, marking the first entry in a list of three films that includes Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary and GANTZ:O. Produced by Toei Animation with a screenplay by Ikuko Takahashi, the cast features Masako Nozawa as Asura, Megumi Hayashibara as Wakasa, Hiroaki Hirata as Shichirou, and Kinya Kitaoji as Monk.
