The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is a 2010 Japanese animated film set shortly before Christmas, a month after the school's cultural festival. Kyon, the cynical narrator of the story, is a member of the SOS Brigade, the club founded by his classmate Haruhi Suzumiya. Plans for a Christmas party are underway when Kyon arrives at school one December morning to find the world altered: the brigade no longer exists, Mikuru Asahina does not recognize him, Yuki Nagato is an ordinary student, and Haruhi and Itsuki Koizumi appear to have vanished. Only Kyon seems to remember how things were, and he sets out to work out what happened and whether his original reality can be restored.
The film continues the story of the television series and was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto and Tatsuya Ishihara, with a screenplay by Fumihiko Shimo. It was Takemoto's second film, following The Adventures of Minoru Shiraishi, and it was Ishihara's first. The voice cast includes Tomokazu Sugita as Kyon, Aya Hirano as Haruhi, Minori Chihara as Yuki, Yuko Goto as Mikuru, Daisuke Ono as Itsuki and Natsuko Kuwatani as Ryoko Asakura. Made on a budget of about 2 million dollars, it took roughly 8 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 8 out of 10 from around 8,800 votes, and on TMDB 7.9 out of 10 from about 295 votes.
