The Legend of the Swordsman

Ling Wu Chung is a swordsman who seeks to withdraw from a chaotic world and live in seclusion. His plans are interrupted when he becomes entangled in a violent conflict between warring factions. Depending on the circumstances, he seeks to rescue a kidnapped leader or a captured master while dealing with an adversary who has obtained a sacred manuscript granting supernatural martial arts abilities.

Directed by Tony Ching Siu-Tung, this action fantasy was the fifth of 13 films in his career, following A Chinese Ghost Story III and preceding Heroic Trio 2: Executioners. The movie stars Jet Li as Ling Wu Chung, alongside Brigitte Lin, Rosamund Kwan, and Michelle Reis. It was produced by Tsui Hark, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Tin-suen Chan and Elsa Tang Bik-Yin.

The film earned 4 million USD at the worldwide box office and was the highest-grossing movie in China in 1992. It holds a rating of 6.6/10 on TMDB based on 134 votes. Professional critics provided a similar assessment, with a rating of 6.7/10 from 6 reviews.
