The Vagrant

Graham Krakowski, a meticulous financial analyst, buys a house and expects to settle into an orderly life there. Instead he finds a vagrant camped nearby who refuses to leave, and the man's presence turns into an escalating campaign against the new owner. When the intruder seems able to enter the house at will and the police dismiss his complaints, Krakowski's grip on his own routine begins to loosen. The disappearance of neighbours and a series of killings complicate matters further, and suspicion gradually turns toward Krakowski himself.

The Vagrant was directed by Chris Walas, following his debut The Fly II three years earlier, from a screenplay by Richard Jefferies. Bill Paxton leads as Krakowski, with Michael Ironside as Lt. Ralf Barfuss, Marshall Bell as the vagrant, and Mitzi Kapture, Colleen Camp and Patrika Darbo in supporting roles. The production, a horror comedy thriller made across the United States and France, was mounted on a budget of about 10 million dollars.

Reaction since release has been mixed. On IMDb the film sits at 5.8 out of 10 across roughly 2,400 votes, while on TMDB it holds 5.9 out of 10 from a much smaller group of around 60 users. The two scores are close, suggesting a modest but comparable reception from both audiences, with the low vote counts pointing to a film that has remained a minor entry in the early 1990s horror-comedy catalogue.
