Short description

Twin Dragons follows two identical twins who are separated shortly after birth and grow up unaware of each other. One becomes a classical conductor based in America, while the other stays in Hong Kong as a hot-tempered mechanic who races cars and gets into fights. When the conductor travels to Hong Kong for a concert, a chance meeting throws the two together, and the confusion that follows pulls them into each other's lives and troubles, including some involving criminals.

Jackie Chan plays both brothers. Tsui Hark and Ringo Lam share directing credits on the film, which was written by Tsui Hark, Barry Wong and Joe Cheung Tung-cho, and produced by Ng See-Yuen. The cast includes Teddy Robin, Maggie Cheung, Nina Li Chi, James Wong and Sylvia Chang. For Tsui Hark, it is the ninth of thirty-one films he directed in chronological order, arriving between The Banquet and Once Upon a Time in China II. For Ringo Lam, it sits between Prison on Fire II and Full Contact.

Released in Hong Kong in early 1992, the action comedy runs 104 minutes and took about 47 million US dollars worldwide. Audiences rate it modestly: on IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from over twelve thousand votes, and on TMDB 6.9 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. The film critics' rating stands lower, at 5.1 out of 10 from thirty-nine reviews.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film has two versions: the original from "Golden Harvest" and the American version from "Dimension Films". The original has more dynamic music, a different editing of frames in a couple of scenes, and romantic and comedic scenes that were cut from the American version. Also, in the "Dimension Films" version, the characters' names were changed – John Ma and Boomer (originally Ya Ma and Hard Nut), Tyson (Tarzan in the Hong Kong version) and Tammy (Tong San in the original version).
  • This is the last film in which Nina Li Chi starred, as she left her acting career in 1992.
  • This film does not have "bloopers" at the end, unlike most films starring Jackie Chan.
  • During the boat race, their registration numbers changed several times. Tyson and Boomer's boat initially had the number 27838, but when it hits the ramp and travels on land, its number is already 23108. The two other boats involved in the chase had registration numbers 43738 and 24118. Then one boat crashes and explodes – at that moment, the boat's number is clearly visible. In later scenes, the number of the remaining boat was supposed to be 24118, but 43738 was seen several times.
