Caveman

Atouk is a small, weak member of a Stone Age tribe, and he is in love with Lana, the mate of Tonda, the tribe's hulking leader. When Tonda learns of this, he drives Atouk out. Wandering the wilderness, Atouk joins forces with other outcasts, among them the dim-witted Lar and the young woman Tala. Together they form a group of their own, survive encounters with dinosaurs, and pick up discoveries about fire, cooked food and standing upright that give them an advantage over the tribe that rejected them. Their aim is to return and settle the score with Tonda.

The film is a prehistoric comedy directed by Carl Gottlieb, who wrote the screenplay with Rudy De Luca. It was Gottlieb's first feature as director, followed years later by Amazon Women on the Moon. Ringo Starr plays Atouk, with Dennis Quaid as Lar, Shelley Long as Tala, Jack Gilford as Gog, Barbara Bach as Lana and Carl Lumbly as Bork. It was produced by David Foster and Lawrence Turman through their company, with United Artists releasing it and production taking place partly in Mexico.

Released in April 1981, the film runs 91 minutes and took in about 16 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from roughly 9,300 votes, while on TMDB it rates 6.7 from a much smaller base of 203 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 from 21 reviews places it below the audience scores.
