Valley Girl

Julie Richman is a high school student from the San Fernando Valley who moves in a comfortable circle of affluent friends. After breaking up with her boyfriend Tommy, she goes to a party, where two young men from Hollywood turn up uninvited. One of them, Randy, is drawn to her right away, and the two spend a night together in his part of the city. They come from different worlds, and her friends make clear they consider him unsuitable, leaving Julie to choose between their approval and her own feelings.

Martha Coolidge directed the film, which followed her 1976 debut Not a Pretty Picture. Wayne Crawford and Andrew Lane wrote the screenplay and produced. Nicolas Cage plays Randy, with Deborah Foreman as Julie, Elizabeth Daily, Michael Bowen, Cameron Dye and Heidi Holicker in supporting roles; 36 cast members and 48 crew members are credited. Released in April 1983, it took about 17 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb the film holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 21,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 282 votes, placing it in solidly liked territory with a smaller TMDB sample. A critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 30 reviews is close to the IMDb figure and a little above the TMDB one, suggesting critics and general viewers regard it similarly.
